This watercolor portrait portrays Belgian Fashion Designer Raf Simmons, who conquered the world of sophisticated elegance with his collections for Christian Dior. Later on, he came to New York and designed collections for Calvin Klein, though his advanced sense of design was not for the broad general market that Calvin Klein began to cater to. What a pity that a broad segment of the American market could not be reintroduced to refinement and chic elegance as they had known it in the 1950's and 1960's during the heyday of American movie stars dressed by Givenchy and Chanel. Raf Simmons returned to his own style and stayed true to himself in his own colelctions.
