Today is Good Friday and we commemorate the death of Jesus. This is a watercolor portrait of Jesus before embalmment after he was brought from the cross. It is a copy of the great Flemish master Jacob Jordaens (1593-1678). It is an extract from his painting: "The Washing and Embalming of Jesus Christ".
This realistic painting of Jesus' suffering stands witness to the perverted happenings in society today. This beautiful man of God gave his life to receive forgiveness for the madness of men's unbridled beastly actions. In this act alone, he is the highest among all religious leaders to show this complete standard and degree of ethics, having died for it. May we always remain true to his teachings.
The darkness surrounds his closed eyes, while the gaping wounds from the crown of thorns speak for his ultimate sacrifice and sanctity. No artist can look past it without being deeply moved. This religious painting celebrates the Christian feast of Christ's resurrection at Easter.
